NEWS FLASH SEPTEMBER 2007:
Would you believe that my superstar Blaze took out BEST OF BREED
at the Melbourne Royal show YET AGAIN !!! WOW, that makes four years in a row now. All under
different International Judges, Blaze's quality has shone through and beating top quality Lapphunds
from around the country, Blaze once again strutted his stuff and won. What a high I am on !!!
NEWS FLASH SEPTEMBER 2006:
Wonder Blaze takes out his THIRD BEST OF BREED award in a row at the Royal Melbourne Show. Blaze's outstanding qualities have now been seen by International judges accross the country, being awarded SIX Best of Breed awards at Royal shows in the Major States of Australia. He is certainly a dog to be proud of and I certainly am.

AGILITY AND BLAZE - NOVEMBER 12TH 2006:
Blaze and I have been attending the Ballarat Obedience dog club since March this year. We are currently training in Agility and below are some photos from his training lesson.

Blaze in the snow 2005
Blaze is my first Finnish Lapphund and my wonderful introduction to the breed. After seeing this breed in magazines, I fell in love with their looks, but it wasn't until I was lucky enough to purchase Blaze that I then fell in love with their temperament. Blaze simply blazed right into my life and took over. An adorable puppy, he walked confidently out of his flight crate and into my arms, where to this day he is happy to stay. I was astounded by his lack of fear, his willingness to accept anything new, his bravery (or is it stupidity? LOL) with my Malamutes and his easiness to train (well he had me trained right from the first minute !)
His ability to charm has even won over my Non doggy Husband, who in the past has winged and complained about my dogs inside the house (outside the house, me showing, dog hair, phone calls from puppy people, you get the drift !!) but with Blaze it was like; "He can live in the house with us... do you think he would be OK in bed with us too?" Picking my jaw up off the floor I agreed that, yes, Blaze would be more suited to living inside with us.
Littleman (don't be deceived by his name, he's the biggest Mal I've had) took a while to adjust to sharing his house with another dog, especially one that attache's itself to his back legs whenever he moves. But he got over his jealousy and started looking for the little monster whenever he came inside. They used to have a ball spreading their toys from one end of the lounge room to the other playing and fighting over them or running amuck outside, protecting our property from pirates. Sadly Blaze and I lost Littleman in December 2004 and both of us are still feeling the loss.
Blazes habit of attaching himself to one's legs has expanded to me, as I move from one room to another he chases behind me, wrapping his paws around my leg and desperately hanging onto whatever toy he has in his mouth. If I moved about the house all day, he would be happy to be dragged along. When he's finally tired (and boy does that take a lot) he will come up to me and rest his head on my couch, asking to be picked up and cuddled to sleep. He has a habit once asleep or resting, if we want to move him, to just lie there flopping like a new born baby as we try to pick him up.
Blaze also took to showing with style. An easy puppy to train, he walks in the ring with an attitude of, "I am the best" and judges have fallen for it, for his show career started with a bang picking up a Baby in Group and a second placing in Baby Puppy Sweepstakes. His showing career has been very interesting! Check out his show results below.
Being a versatile breed, Blaze and I have also tried our hands/paws at sheep herding and Blaze is the FIRST Finnish Lapphund in Australia to achieve his HERDING INSTINCT TEST TITLE. Hopefully when my children are older, Blaze and I will be able to attend more training and start to trial.
Currently Blaze and I attend BALLARAT DOG OBEDIENCE CLUB and are training in AGILITY. Blaze is doing very well, even if he's a little slow. I am hopeful that by 2007 Blaze and I will be able to begin Agility Trials with the goal of obtaining his Agility title.
